From the East – September 2022
Greetings Brethren,
The Truth
To me, one of the most puzzling phenomena of the 21 Century has been an apparent confusion over “Truth.”
I was taught that truth exists and can be known. Then I learned that there was a Truth with a capital T that is also known as Knowledge with a capital K, which can be approximated through experience and advancements in science and knowledge (little k). However, with the popularization of the internet and social media, multiple “truths” have arisen, which are often contradictory, misleading, and confusing.
As a Freemason, I decided to find some clarity and light concerning truth through Masonic writings.
My first source is the book, Esoterika by Albert Pike, as translated and annotated by Arturo de Hoyos, and what follows is from his writings. This is my first attempt at clarity and light from the first author that I consulted on this topic.
Conveniently, for my purposes, Pike has a section in his book under Fragments called “The Truth.”
Not surprisingly, we assume that Truth “means conformity to fact, a reality, that which one says that it is not false.”
On a deeper level, “Truth is the Supreme Virtue, the Sovereign Good, which is not obscured by matter, nor circumscribed by the body; the naked Good, evident, unalterable.”
The “Truth that is great and mighty above all things, is Divine Wisdom immanent in the Deity, whereby He was deemed to have created the Universe.” In essence, the “Intelligence of the Divine Being, the consciousness of the Supreme God, is the only Truth.” This then can be a useful gauge for measuring the truthfulness of things.
However, there is a warning, this is a world “full of illusion, of changeful appearances, and of error, where things are known only in the dimension of time.”
I hope these few words are helpful and spark interest in The Truth. There is plenty of Light out there in Masonry if one takes the time to seek it.
