To Be One, Ask One

Worshipful Master Hugh Christine

Greetings Brethren,

In our ritual the Worshipful Master will “set the craft at labor and give them good and wholesome instruction.” Is this simply a part of ritual, following an agenda, or something more?

Masonic Work is the application of our skills and abilities to an effort. It is action conducted by each of us individually and collectively. The tenets of a Master Mason’s work are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. A Lodge must find a path that allows all members to apply their skills and knowledge so that we can provide relief and improve in Masonry.

Brotherly Love drives us to consider all of humanity with kindness, thoughtfulness, and affection for others. It unites us as a brotherhood that transcends borders, wealth, and other considerations. We are on the level with all mankind.

Relief for the distressed is reflected in Wheelchair Pushes, visiting the elderly and sick, and supporting others. To have sympathy for another at a time of sadness such as the loss of a loved one. To help another find peace when it is needed. Raising funds for charity allows each of us to assist others each year.

Truth allows us to regulate our behavior. To remain true to ourselves allows us to consider our actions and words and allows us to continue to improve ourselves during our journey from rough ashlars.

Fraternally,
WM Hugh Christine
