To Be One, Ask One

To Be One, Ask One

From the East – October 2023

Greetings Brethren,

As we look back on the Entered Apprentice Degree, we should take a moment to reflect on the symbolism that Earth holds as a pro-found and essential place within the rich tapestry of Freemasonry. Earth represents far more than just the planet beneath our feet; it serves as a powerful metaphor that encapsulates some of the core principles and teachings of Freemasonry. The importance of Earth in Freemasonry lies in its capacity to impart lessons of mortality, morality, and unity.

Earth reminds us of our own mortality. Just as the Earth has witnessed count-less generations come and go, Masons are reminded that life is fleeting. This recognition of the transitory nature of human existence serves as a catalyst for self-reflection and personal growth. Freemasonry encourages its members to make the most of their time on this earthly plane, striving for moral excellence and spiritual enlightenment, while leaving a positive impact on their communities.

Earth also symbolizes the importance of morality and the need to build one’s life on a solid moral foundation. Just as a strong structure requires a stable base, the Masonic journey hinges upon the principles and values represented by Earth. We as Freemasons are encouraged to cultivate strong moral and ethical principles in their lives, which will not only support them in times of adversity but also guide our actions in accordance with the Masonic tenets of truth, integrity, and virtue.

Furthermore, Earth represents the unity and equality that are fundamental to Freemasonry. Like the Earth that provides a home to diverse landscapes and ecosystems, the Masonic fraternity welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life. Regardless of social, economic, or cultural differences, Freemasonry encourages Masons to treat each other as equals and work together harmoniously for the betterment of themselves and society. In this way, Earth serves as a powerful symbol of the universal brotherhood that lies at the heart of Freemasonry, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and shared values in the pursuit of personal and collective enlightenment.

Freemasonry extends far beyond its physical presence. It serves as a potent symbol that imparts lessons of mortality, morality, and unity, guiding us, as Freemasons, on a path of self-improvement and enlightenment. Through its symbolism, Earth reinforces the timeless principles of Masonry and reminds its members of the enduring importance of striving for personal and collective betterment, just as the Earth itself continues to evolve and renew.

Fraternally,
